Episode 6: Am I gonna raise my kids to be super asian?
As we close out May and Asian American Heritage month, I'm sharing what I am bringing into the western world and what I am leaving out. I am first generation Asian American and my family fled to the United States in 1975. Being the youngest of 7 allowed me to have a unique upbringing in a country that empowers you to use free speech that gets dampened by the Asian culture to be agreeable and silencing your emotions.
Here are some photos from our wedding day. We kept the tradition of holding a Tea Ceremony. My gown was custom made and it was special experience this with my mom.
The 3rd photo is my mother-in-law has gifted me jewelry which is part of our tradition. She also gave us some gold that they had carried on their journey from Vietnam to the United States.
I would for you to join the conversation on Instagram and I'd be so grateful for a review on iTunes so we can reach more mamas who would get value out of these episodes.
